Historical events: Willie Hoppe won the billiard championship of the world in Paris, France (1906); Paramount Home Video reported that it would place a commercial at the front of one of its video releases for the first time. It was a 30-second Diet Pepsi ad at the beginning of "Top Gun" (1987)
Saint of the day: Saint Paul fled into the wilderness to avoid persecution in the Second Century. He took up residence in a cave near a spring and palm tree, and stayed there for ninety years.
