BLIND, STUPID AND DESPERATE

05/06: Preview: Preston North End
BSaD opinion
by Matt Rowson

How did they do?
"Preston might've been three or four ahead by the break, failing to take advantage of a variety of situations that were caused by a variety of defensive mishaps. Lucketti wasted a free header at a corner; Cresswell was awake while everyone else slept at a free kick, and contrived to smack a shot against the bar from barely six yards; Lewis smashed a volley across the face of goal just seconds after that Helguson chance had temporarily lifted our spirits. As ever, we conceded clear, open, inviting chances at an average, if not entirely punctual, rate of one every fifteen minutes. That's no future for a football team."

How will they do?
Fell at the final hurdle last season, and you kinda feel that they may have to wait a while for a better chance since, much as Preston were far too good for us when we met in March, they made it to the play-offs on momentum that will take a lot of recreating a second season around. Following the successful recruitment of David Nugent North End seem to be persisting with a strategy of recruiting the best kids from the lower divisions; that's a policy for the long term, though... this time Preston should land up anonymously top half.
