Saint of the Day: Saint Barbara was a beautiful maiden whose father was less than happy when she converted to Christianity. He denounced her to the authorities, who ordered him to kill her. So he dragged her home by the hair, tortured her and killed her. Her father was immediately struck by lightning as heavenly revenge, which is why Barbara is the patron saint of fireworks.
