03/04: Preview: Crystal Palace
by Matt Rowson and Ian Grant
How did they do?
Much the same as us... bumbled around in mid-table, occasionally suggested that they might think about making a push for the play-offs if the wind was favourable but never quite managed it. Got very upset about going out of the Cup after a dodgy decision against Leeds, and managed to lose at home to our reserve side in Gifton's last game. Also sacked Trev, which was probably a bit of a relief.
How will they do?
With Adebola and, presumably, Gray gone and only Shipperley recruited at the time of writing the squad looks no stronger than last season. They're not lumbered by Trev's all-encompassing paranoia any more, of course, so in that sense you'd give them more of a shout this time but you get the feeling that even the play-off enlargement that Simon Jordan was so in favour of wouldn't help Palace any this season. Will do well to get out of the bottom half.
Palace as a shade of Crown Paint
When you think about it, the line between sparkling gold and dismal brown is quite thin, isn't it?
