03/04: Preview: Ipswich Town
by Matt Rowson and Ian Grant
How did they do?
Started appallingly, recovered their balance under Joe Royle's leadership and were thundering upwards by the time the music stopped, if just short of the play-off zone. Were probably the most impressive opponents we faced during the season.
How will they do?
Matt Holland's departure is obviously significant, but Ipswich's squad is still very, very strong. Any judgment at this point could be tempered by any further trimming that the finances demand, but you'd have to fancy Ipswich for at least a play-off place. The recruits of Drissa Diallo and Georges Santos, however, suggest that Joe Royle will continue to stamp a more brutal impression onto the football at Portman Road.
Ipswich as a shade of Crown Paint
The new black, not so very long ago. Now just the new grey.
