On this day

Previous reports: Sheffield Wednesday 0 Watford 0, 14/01/98
Celebrity birthdays: Albert Schweitzer (1875), LL Cool J (1968)
Historical events: Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first U.S. President to fly in an airplane while in office (1943), Josip Broz Tito was elected president of Yugoslavia by the country's Parliament (1953).
Saint of the day: Saint Felix of Nola, an early Christian Saint, had a particular sympathy for innocents of false witness, and an immense gratitude to spiders. After escaping imprisonment and persecution he hid himself in a cave, where an obliging spider protected him from detection by spinning a web across the entrance. (He hadn't seen the Lord of the Rings, obviously.)
