BLIND, STUPID AND DESPERATE

03/04: Preview: Burnley
BSaD opinion
by Matt Rowson

How did they do?
Not everything was our fault.

Having come close to a play-off place for the previous two seasons, Burnley's side was past its sell-by date in too many departments last time around. Of our three victories over the Clarets last season, the particularly spectacular triumph at Turf Moor and the Quarter-Final win stand out as significant, but others than us exploited their accommodating defence. The suggestion that our cup win scuppered Burnley's future rather glosses over the fact that the clubs had already split the winners' reward money, and that we made very little out of the Semi-Final. In reality, Burnley's critical failure was not getting promoted the previous season.

How will they do?
Stan Ternent has taken a stout broom to the squad, and has also lost Drissa Diallo, something he probably wasn't counting on. The quality of replacements brought in at the time of writing looks decidedly patchy, and Burnley can aim no higher than a mid-table finish this time. If the defence isn't significantly strengthened early on, expect them to struggle.

Burnley as a shade of Crown Paint

Belligerently turgid.
