BLIND, STUPID AND DESPERATE

03/04: Preview: Bradford City
BSaD opinion
by Matt Rowson and Ian Grant

How did they do?
Survived. Never looked like achieving any more, mind, but given the context of most of the squad being laid off the previous summer this would probably have sufficed for most. Oh, and they beat us at Valley Parade again, natch.

How will they do?
One of several sides to have shovelled a fair chunk of the squad out of the door as unfashionably expensive contracts expire, Nicky Law seems to have done as good a job as he could have of wheeling and dealing to secure reasonable replacements on what must logically be less money. In particular Gavin always seemed a little unfortunate not to get a run at Boro, and Luke Cornwall was popular and prolific on loan at Grimsby two seasons ago.

Nonetheless, making the most of a tough situation doesn't equate to anything like a play-off challenge. Expect a struggle at first with mid-table secured by the end of the season. The new squad will naturally take time to gel. Ask Luca.

Bradford as a shade of Crown Paint
  "Lavender Mist"
A pleasing colour scheme, indeed. Just a shame that someone decided to buy ten truckloads of top-of-the-range paint, got themselves in masses of debt in the process, and ended up having to move into a tiny bedsit with wallpaper dating back to the sixties to save money...
