BLIND, STUPID AND DESPERATE

02/03: Preview: Brighton and Hove Albion
BSaD opinion
by Matt Rowson

How did they do?
Survived the blow of losing Mickey Adams and the sucker punch of Peter Taylor's appointment to win the Second Division title, quite improbably. No small inspiration to the gamut of clubs creaking financially... Albion are by no means loaded themselves, but have seen darker days and recovered.

How will they do?
Struggle. If Zamora's as good as people say (and notably supporters of clubs promoted with Brighton both picked out Zamora as the Division One player they'd like to sign in our census), he may do enough to keep them up. If they can hold on to him. But as Peter Taylor's lack of a new job tends to imply that conditions at Withdean really are that bad, and with no incoming signings to strengthen the squad, Brighton may need to rely on the number of clubs whose finances are even worse off than theirs are if they're going to stay up.

Brighton on Big Brother...?
Have an early problem as they find a nest of earwigs in their mattress. Nearly walk but brave it out, their plight attracting support from fellow housemates who rally around. Briefly sleep at the far end of the garden and subsequently on a small campbed provided by Big Brother despite it being patently too small.
