BLIND, STUPID AND DESPERATE

01/02: Preview: Stockport County
Opposition opinion
by Jon Thomason of SCFC Online

What happened last season?
Pretty much the same as last season, and the season before that, only this time we were in real trouble of relegation. However the win against Birmingham (how I laughed when they lost in the playoff semi) snapped us and we won 5 of the next 8, losing just once to haul us clear of trouble. Eventful is what I would say.

What's going to happen next season?
The same again? We sold heavily last season (Moore, Nash, Cooper, Dinning) and, with the possible exceptions of Kuqi and Wiss, haven't really replaced them. I think this time we will go down. But I've said that the last 4 seasons :-)

Can you recommend a pub for away fans?
Royal Oak on Castle Street is okay.

What's the nearest railway station?
Stockport station - it's on the main line (last stop before Piccadilly)and it's a very short walk. You can see the ground from the train...HOWEVER, you remember the engineering work last season ? Railtrack in their infinite wisdom have decided that the exact same work needs doing again. I don't know why, but Stockport is closed on Saturdays (well all weekend) until I think early November. We'll have to wait until the fixture lists come out to see if you are affected. (We're not at Edgeley Park 'til April, but don't bet on anything - Ed)

Where is the best place to park?
Fair bit of street parking - massive parking lot at the station will do but that costs.

Soundbites (from assorted Census correspondents)

"We don't come from Manchester!"

"I wish my cars reg was I 8 MANCS"

"Once again this season we will bring the annoying drum to vicarage road!!"

"I feel we have established ourselves in the First Division and we should be around mid-table in the new season"

"The last ten years have been as good as its got at Edgeley. Although following the County through the 70's and 80's, it was more a cause, rather than a appreciation of good football that kept the die-hards going"

"Surprise play off contenders, we should be knocking on the door with the team we've got. It's whether we can keep it together for a full season that'll be the problem"

"Only four teams in the league have been relegated less recently than County. Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton and Spurs"
