BLIND, STUPID AND DESPERATE

01/02: Preview: Gillingham
BSaD opinion
by Matt Rowson

How did they do?
A purposeful, single-minded barge into mid-table safety, the Gills' season was characterised by a bullish refusal to revert to expectations and submit to a relegation struggle.

How will they do?
The Gills' relative success last season seemed to be built on a defiance which they may not be able to depend upon to the same extent this time. The game at Priestfield at the end of the season may have been a meaningless run-out, but the Gills looked a very, very poor side and haven't strengthened their squad at the time of writing. Will go down.

Do we like them?
The Hessie thing seems to have died down a bit (and not before time). The Gills also won friends last year with a resolute performance at the Vic and, particularly, finally losing to us at the Priestfield at the end of the season for the first time in donkey's years. So we used to dislike them quite a lot, but we're not really that bothered any more. Like John Motson.

If they were a tv or radio show, what would they be?
"The Magic Roundabout". A little bit peculiar, not really going anywhere, and sort of French.
