Previous reports: None
Celebrity birthdays: Charlotte Bronte (1816), Iggy Pop (1947), Robert Smith (1959)
Historical events: The foundation of Rome (753 BC), German fighter ace Baron von Richthofen, "The Red Baron," was shot down and killed during World War I (1918), Geraldo Rivera opened a vault that belonged to Al Capone at the Lexington Hotel in Chicago. Nothing of interest was found inside (1986)
Saint of the day: Welsh Saint Bueno was a tolerant chap who moved further into Welsh territory to avoid having to listen to English being spoken. His greatest achievement seems to have been restoring the head of a bride who had been robbed and beheaded by her new husband. Not one to take sides, Bueno also restored the head of the bridegroom after the bride's brother had caught up with him.
