BLIND, STUPID AND DESPERATE

01/02: Preview: Barnsley
Opposition opinion
by Darren Penty of Copacabarnsley

What happened last season?
The season virtually collapsed before it had began with the sale of Craig Hignett to Blackburn. It almost certainly gave Rovers more goal power and creativity and had the opposite effect on Barnsley.

Dave Bassett seemed to lose his way and things picked up under new boss Nigel Spackman and the football began to flow again.

What's going to happen next season?
Another major goal-getter is sold before the season starts. Sound familiar? This time it's Neil Shipperley to the Dons. Despite needing to find 15 goals from somewhere, I remain optimistic that some of the younger players will flourish under Spackman. Play-offs are a possibility, if the situation is assessed early and the side strengthened if needed. Watch out for some neat football and hopefully we can land a top six place.

Can you recommend a pub for away fans?
The Mount, Pontefract Road.

What's the nearest railway station?
Barnsley train station is about five minute walk to the ground.

Where is the best place to park?
Parking's difficult but there's the odd car park available near the ground for a couple of quid. The old slaughterhouse yard's not bad.
