Rangers' summer signings betray the limitations to their ambitions. Whilst there's clearly no law stating that you have to spend big to get promoted (and certainly Francis has demonstrated his ability to spot a bargain with the signing of Stuart Wardley amongst others) it's hard to see the Rangers squad having the strength in depth to maintain a promotion challenge.
